Makhuntseti waterfall

Half an hour from the city — twenty metres of falling water, with a stone bridge eight hundred years old beside it.

Makhuntseti is Adjara's most accessible 'big' waterfall: five minutes' walk from the car park, and in summer you can swim in the pool beneath the cascade. A few hundred metres away stands Queen Tamar's arch bridge — eight centuries old, no cement, just dressed stone.

Tasting yards have sprung up around it: locals pour wine and chacha right by the road. In winter and spring the waterfall runs fullest; summer trims it down but adds the swim.
